ADMISSION INTO DIPLOMA COURSES FOR 2011/2012 ACADEMIC SESSION REGULAR PROGRAMMES

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following Regular Diploma programmes of the Institute of Education, Delta State University, Abraka.

i Business Education
ii Hotel and Catering Management Education
iii Library Science Education
iv Nursery and Primary Education
v Integrated Science Education
vi Physical and Health Education
vii Secretarial Studies Education
viii Mathematics Education
ix Physics Education
x Chemistry Education
xi Biology Education
xii Health, Safety and Environmental Education
xiii Computer Science Education

Duration of courses
The Diploma course will be for two academic sessions

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
General Requirements

Applicants must possess at least four (4) credits at not more than two sittings in the SSCE/NECO or its equivalent. Candidates are also expected to fulfill the specific Departmental Requirements for their various courses of choice.

(1) Diploma in Business Education
a. A minimum of four credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC including English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Commerce and one other subject at not more than two sittings.
b. Associate Certificate in Education/Accounting/Business Administration/Marketing/Secretarial Studies awarded by an approved Institute of Higher Learning.

(2) Diploma in Hotel and Catering Management Education
a. Minimum of four credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC including English Language, one of Biology/ Agricultural Science, Health Science and any two of Economics, Geography, Food and Nutrition, Home Management, General Science. In addition, candidates are expected to posses a minimum of P7 or P8 in Mathematics and Chemistry at not more than two sittings.
b. TC II with at least Merit passes in (4) subjects as required in (a) above and passes in Mathematics and General Science.

(3)Diploma in Library Science Education
a. A minimum of four credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC O LEVEL including English Language, at not more than two sittings.
b. A minimum of (4) Merits in TC II including English Language.
c. Any other equivalent qualification acceptable to Senate as in (a) and (b) above.

(4)Diploma in Nursery and Primary Education
a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC O/Level including English Language at not more than two sittings.
b. A minimum of four (4) Merits in TC II including English Language.
c. Any other equivalent qualification acceptable to Senate as in (a) and (b) above.

(5) Diploma in Integrated Science Education
a.A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC O/Level including Mathematics and any two of the following Science subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science, Home Economics/Food and Nutrition with at least a pass in English Language at not more than two sittings.
b. A minimum of four (4) Merits in TC II in the relevant Science subjects as indicated in (a) above. Merit in Arithmetic processes would be considered a substitute for Mathematics

(6) Diploma in Physical and Health Education
a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC O Level including English Language and Biology or Health Science at not more than two sittings.
b. A minimum of four (4) Merits in TC II including English Language and Physical Education.
c. Holders of Associateship Certificates in Education.
d. Candidates who are deficient in English Language but have the required minimum of four (4) credits in GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC or Merits in TC II but must be a recognized current state and or national Sportsmen or Women with evidence of sports performance may be considered.

(7) Diploma in Secretarial Studies Education
a.A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC .O Level including English Language, Economics or Commerce and two other subjects at not more than two sittings.
b.Associate Certificate in Education/Accounting/Business Administration/Secretarial Studies awarded by an approved Institute of Higher Learning.

(8) Diploma in Mathematics Education
a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC or equivalent including Mathematics with at least a pass in English Language at not more than two sittings.

(9) Diploma in Biology Education
a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/ OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC or equivalent including Mathematics and Biology with at least a pass in English Language at not more than two sittings.

(10) Diploma in Chemistry Education
a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC or equivalent including Mathematics and Chemistry with at least a pass in English Language at not more than two sittings.

(11) Diploma in Physics Education
a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE,NECO, WASC or equivalent including Mathematics and Biology with at least a pass in English Language at not more than two sittings.

(12) Diploma in Health, Safety and Environmental Education
a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC O/Level including English Language and one Science subject from Biology/ Heath Science, Agricultural Science, Chemistry and Physics and two (2) other subjects at not more than two sittings.

(13) Diploma in Computer Science Education
a. A minimum of four (4) credits in the GCE/OL, SSCE, NECO, WASC or equivalent including English Language and Mathematics and any other two (2) Science subjects at not more than two sittings.
b. A minimum of four (4) Merits in TC II including English Language and Mathematics and any other two (2) science subjects.

Candidates are required to come to the examination venue with the following.

i. A copy of the Print-out of completed on-line confirmation of application
ii. Two recent passport-size colour photographs with the full names of candidates and signature on the reversed side of the photograph.
iii. Four figure table (where applicable)
iv. Biro, HB Pencil and Eraser

2. On-line application will start on Tuesday 1 November, 2011

NOTE:
(a) Candidates are to log in ONLY the courses they choose for the Diploma programme
(b) GSM Phones are NOT allowed
(c) Parents, Guardians and well wishers will not be allowed to stay around the venue of the examination.
(d) Any person caught impersonating will be handed over to the Police and the candidates impersonated will automatically be disqualified.
